David Leland Nelson was a friend to everyone. He was a wonderful friend. He worked hard, loved everyone, and lived passionately. Born in Oklahoma City on March 27th, 1988 he was given the name Leland as a legacy from his Grandfather and Great-grandfather. He attended Coronado Heights elementary School, Putnam City Central Middle School, and Putnam City High School. He continued school as a third generation Nelson at Oklahoma State University.

David enjoyed life. He was very hands-on. He loved to be outside. He enjoyed baseball, paint balling, fishing, and cross-country running. He was always available to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Even in his last hours, David was helping others. After the accident that took his life on April 25, 2009, David donated 3 organs to local recipients in need. While he is missed dearly everyday, he left countless  people with beautiful, lasting memories of someone who was a wonderful son, brother, leader, and friend.

As David's family and friends, we are excited to host this run in his memory. While David enjoyed about any outdoor activity, he especially loved to run. We feel that The David Nelson Memorial Race will be a beautiful and fun way to honor his life. All of the proceeds will go to The David L. Nelson Memorial Engineering Scholarship Fund at Oklahoma State University.
